What releases did Nike really give us of the Air Max 90 aside from the seasonal colorways that they give us every year? The only colorways that truly stand out to me are the Cork, OG Infrared and Velvet. That s it.There was not one single collaboration done with the Air Max 90 in 2015. Remember when Nike teamed up with Atmos in 2013 to release two of the all-time best colorways of the Air Max 90? Or what about when did they did it again last year with the release of the Bleached Denim colorway? Those two collaborations are two of the greatest Air Max 90s ever created and the crazy thing is that they weren t created to commemorate or celebrate any special milestone or anniversary.
Atmos and Nike collaborated just for the hell of it and created instant classics. So why couldn t something similar be done this year for the nike air max thea womens 25th anniversary?So why is that? Is it because they couldn t find any brands/partners/boutiques to collaborate with? Nah it can t be that. I m sure Nike has hundreds of people constantly knocking on their door begging to collaborate with them. Maybe because the Air Max 90 isn t that popular? Nope. The Air Max 90 is one of Nike s most loved and classic silhouettes that continues to sell in pretty much every colorway that s released. Maybe the reasoning behind their disappointing 25th anniversary releases is the fact that Nike feels that they don t have to try as hard anymore.
It remains to be seen if this is nothing more than a symbolic move and the new Kobe in 2017 will be called the Nike Kobe 13 or AD 2, but one thing that was clear from the reveal was that this was a different Mamba we were dealing with it. A part of me wants Kobe Bryant to remain that hyper-competitive, sometimes petty, always sardonic jerk that captivated us for 20 years.
